Angela Lenman Gallery
Angela has been working in batik for over 30 years.
Her inspiration comes mainly from old, crumbling buildings, mostly collected on her travels. She seeks out the most obscure corners and sketches or photographs shapes, textures and rusty, desolate colours created by time and the elements, a once glorious decoration, a patch of rusty iron, some eroded stonework or rotten, discoloured painted wood. She loves to recreate these old surfaces by a combination of wax, dye and bleach.
She sometimes works on fabric in a more or less traditional style, and loves experimenting with alternative dyes and fabrics, but it is the unexpected, amazing results achieved with a variety of papers which never cease to amaze and enchant her.
