Lovers of art and craft in the South East will be familiar with the many events run by Craft in Focus, the largest of these being the Spring and Autumn events at RHS Wisley Gardens.
As always, there are Surrey Guild members among the exhibitors but this year from Thursday 3 May to Monday 7 May, taking in the bank holiday. there will also be a number of our members demonstrating their crafts.
Among the exhibitors are Susan Holton whose knitwear is so popular in our shop in Milford, and Colin Norgate, who makes modern furniture and smaller decorative pieces in wood. This picture of Colin's bowls has been chosen by Craft in Focus for their website for the event. (http://www.craftinfocus.com/next-fair)
Jan Simpson's glass designs often reflect the colours of the scenery from holidays or in the countryside around her. Jan sells under the name Koru Arts Alan Wallis is another Surrey Guild member who will be familiar to visitors to Craft in Focus events with his whimsical ceramic designs.
New member Heidi Robinson will be showing visitors how she comes up with such delightful glass designs and talking about those she can't demonstrate in the garden surroundings. Anyone fascinated by glass will be able to find out a whole lot more about this fascinating craft.
Alison Catchlove almost lives at Wisley! She has been there during the Butterfly event showcasing her beautiful metal garden flowers, insects and birds, so many visitors may already be familiar with her work - but not necessarily have any idea how they come to fruition!
In the same tent as Heidi, Nancy Shafee will be showcasing both her coiled fabric baskets, made in upcycled silks and Liberty prints, and her decorative felt, keeping her electric sewing machine well away from the water she uses with her feltmaking! Nancy sells under the name of Flights of Fantasy. Visitors who get hooked on the idea can book up for workshops with Nancy, whose classes are just a few miles from Wisley.
The event runs from Thursday 3 May to Monday 7 May, taking in the bank holiday - come early and stay for lunch!
