Mavis Walker

Discipline: Figurative stitched sculptures

I was a knitter in the 1970s and 1980s, and did a great deal of hand and machine knitting, and some crochet, during those years, as well as editing the magazine of the Knitting & Crochet Guild.

I then moved on to embroidery and stitched textiles, doing City & Guilds Embroidery and the Diploma in Stitched Textiles at East Berkshire College in Windsor, followed by a BA Hons degree in Embroidered Textiles at Opus School of Textile Arts, under the direction of Julia Caprara.

I graduated in 2007, and since that time have been exhibiting my work with The Surrey Guild of Craftsmen, The Society of Designer Craftsmen, and Wey Valley Workshop.

Recently, my Chess Set won the Quilt Creations category (sponsored by viv-e-books) at the Festival of Quilts, at the NEC, Birmingham, the annual international exhibition organised by Upper Street Events, and The Quilters Guild of the British Isles (6th - 9th August 2015).

I am available for talks to groups about the Chess Set.
