This scarf is woven on a silk warp dyed with various vegetable dyes I did over several years of ‘trying things out’, including cherry bark and cherry leaves, apple bark and apple leaves, Ling heather, Meadowsweet roots and avocado skins and stones. The weft colours of yellows and oranges were dyed with onion skins and dead Buddliea flowers. The scarf is 70” long by 11” wide, (28 x 178 cms) plus the tasselled fringe at either end.
Care instructions: the scarf can be washed in tepid water with a detergent, (I use shampoo), and is best hung up to dry and then steam pressed to bring out the natural sheen of the silk.

Carolyn is a hand loom weaver working from her home studio in Farnham, specializing in one of a kind scarves in100% spun silk yarn, which produces a soft fabric that drapes beautifully and has a lovely sheen. The silk yarn is dyed by her to the colours desired for the next piece to be woven. She achieves her colours with both synthetic and natural dyes. Inspiration for a design can come from almost anywhere, but especially from nature.
