Malaysian Lacewing Butterfly
The design of this scarf was based on the patterns on the wings of the Malaysian Lacewing Butterfly. The warp is fine silk commercially dyed in grey and cream; the weft is my hand dyed 30/2s silk. The finished scarf is 12” wide by approximately 68” long, plus the twisted tassels at either end.
Care instructions: the scarf can be washed in tepid water with a detergent, (I use shampoo), and is best hung up to dry and then steam pressed to bring out the natural sheen of the silk.

Carolyn is a hand loom weaver working from her home studio in Farnham, specializing in one of a kind scarves in100% spun silk yarn, which produces a soft fabric that drapes beautifully and has a lovely sheen. The silk yarn is dyed by her to the colours desired for the next piece to be woven. She achieves her colours with both synthetic and natural dyes. Inspiration for a design can come from almost anywhere, but especially from nature.
